It's based on a points system, the more your actions on the site contribute to the community the more points you get. So things like Posting pictures and patterns will make you rank up faster than just posting the the chat box.

always always always post pictures of patterns when you make them. it's so easy to do especially if you have an iphone. just download the app. it's like a 2 step process. super duper easy way to level up.

I moved up from Beginner to Advanced in a day, all I did was put a lot of bracelets in my To-do? I also put a question in the forum. That should move you up from Beginner I'm not sure about the rest of the levels.

@Jannekedu Go to the pattern. If you’re on the app, tap the plus sign in the upper right corner and then either tap “add a photo” or “add a video”. If you’re on the website, click either “add a photo” or “add a video” in the upper right corner
