@jennideeM are you really removing string in the middle of one knot? In my experience this shouldn't really be necessary. You can just remove the string after the full knot. This will probably make it easier.

I keep forgetting which way to make the knots on each side, so I'll write it here to remind myself...
Left side: 1 Bknot then FB knot over other strings, then on last string, half of a Fknot, remove string, Bknot. Then Fknot, remove string, Bknot.
Right side: 1 Fknot on first string, then Bf knot over southern strings. Half of Bknot, remove string. Then Fknot, remove string, Bknot
