@YouMatter wow! thats is truly insane and should not be aloud that is something terrible that should not happen to any calf! even if they arent perfect like some people want, you should start a calf saving movement!
We raise our own cows, and we wean our calves about 7-8 months after they are born, so the mom can be left alone for 4-5 months. Most people wean them by separating them, but there are these things called plastic nose tabs that you tighten to the inside of their nose, it doesn't hurt them rather than separating them.
@fizzle No cow in the milk process is allowed to live their natural life span (25 years) Just like humans, Cows only give milk when they have got pregnant. This means they are forced pregnant several times before they are killed. They are also pumped full of antibiotics and hormones so they will produce more milk. They give milk off for about 10 months after giving birth. Not to mention, they stay huddled in groups, surrounded by concrete walls, standing in their own feces. And the baby? They are taken from their mother the day they are born. If it is a female, they MIGHT go threw the same process as their mother when their older. MIGHT. If its a boy cow, it will be shoved into a dark cage, and killed within 2 weeks. This even happens to some of the girls too.This baby cow never see's its mother again, but it will call out to her, with no answer. We should not stand between the bond between mother and baby. Once again, im not saying we should stop consuming meat and dairy products. Just saying their could be much more humane ways to do this! We could give baby calves formula similar to human formula, for one, instead of killing them within a few years of their life.
