It's 14 strings but 13 strings wide because it's an Alpha pattern not a normal pattern. If you watch the "how to make alphas" video just above the pattern it explains why the strings are this way.

No idea. When you create a pattern you just fill in the grid and then the thing generates the number of strings and stuff. And honestly I don't even use these for friendship bracelets, I make patterns for bead working

Why 14 strings if the pattern is only 13 wide???
