hi guys, i’m thinking of starting a new challenge sometime soon but before i start i’d like to know what type of user-made (i.e. not official) challenges people prefer, and what prizes people find the most motivational?

the main types i’ve seen so far include:
🔸 one-round challenges: everybody makes one bracelet (or multiple) and then gets judged, with 1st 2nd and 3rd winning some kind of prize. usually doesn’t matter how many people join these challenges
🔸 elimination challenges: multiple rounds, a couple people get eliminated every round, number of signups may or may not matter
🔸 tournament challenges: similar to elimination challenges but set up in round-robin style with ‘matches’ between people and winners go on to the next round
🔸 number challenges: usually only one round, focused on making a specific number of bracelets/things (either according to the challenge or a personal goal)

and then within this there are two
main categories of types that i’ve seen:
🔸 theme challenges - everyone makes a bracelet according to the theme given
🔸 personalised challenges - things like ‘i pick from your to-dos/likes’, randomised challenges etc

of course this can’t encompass all challenges, but i think it’s the main types that i’ve seen on this website so far (plus official challenges). so what kinds do you prefer?

also my other question: what types of prizes do people find the most motivational or cool to get? i see people offering things like friend requests, loves, five star ratings, making patterns of the winners choice etc - what prizes do you like winning, or are there any others that you wish people offered and would be happy to receive?

thank you! responses greatly appreciated :>

imo the most fun challenges to join are one-round challenges, clearing out to-do challenges and the number challenges u said. also best prizes would be friend requests, loves on patterns and making winners’ patterns. hope tht helps!

I mean, I have hosted both a single round challenge and a challenge with multiple rounds (hosting it right now!), and I think that usually people join more single round challenges than challenges with rounds, but personally I enjoy challenges with rounds more because it adds an extra challenge. However, if you are going to host a challenge with multiple rounds, I would make sure that people who are eliminated still get a little something for participating. Picking from to-dos are also really fun, because sometimes people have been meaning to make a pattern for a while, but never get to doing it, so that’s a fun and kind of helpful challenge as well.

In terms of rewards, I would say that making someone’s pattern is a really nice reward because it means a lot to the person to have their pattern made. If they don’t have any patterns, maybe just ask them if they want something else, or if they want you to make a specific pattern. Ratings and loves on patterns are also a nice prize, because I know it means a lot when someone loves or rates my patterns. Friend requests are good as well, but I usually give everyone who participated one (unless they don’t want one, they’ll usually message you privately if that’s the case).

Sorry for the long response, but I hope this helps!

(I’m having so much fun in both of your challenges, btw! Tag me when you host a new one!)
