good brands for string?

i want to start using my own string for bracelet making, since ive been using dubiously unbranded "embroidery floss" from my local library. i was wondering where all of you guys get it- like if theres a specific vendor or if its just from a craft store.,

If you can find it in your part of the world and price is no object, I have fond memories of DMC Pearl Cotton (size 3). These days, retired in Southeast Asia which makes ordering and shipping the stuff here prohibitively expensive, I've been using the no name cotton thread available at a particular craft shop. Not as Gucci was DMC, but it does the job nicely--holds a tight knot, can usually stand up nicely to tension, makes a satisfyingly thick final product (I was in the habit of doubling up strands with DMC), and best of all, comes in large spools. I can't even imagine trying to make an alpha with DMC these days. |
