This is a discussion about weather the pink is its own color or if it’s just a shade of red. When it comes to paints, the definition of shade is a color that you have added white to. In order to make pink you must add white to red, thus (in my opinion) making pink a shade of red. Let me know what you think!

but isn't a shade the original color mixed with black, and when you add white it's called a tint, adding gray makes it a tone? I don't know this is information I've gathered

The point may be moot, depending entirely on the audience. The other boys on the playground certainly weren't buying the explanation that my shirt was actually "light red" when they repeatedly bashed my noggin off the jungle gym.
