I know this is probably quite random but I have been stressed recently and whenever I go through stressful times, I always end up coming back to bracelet making as a way to relax. We have such a welcoming community so I thought this would be the best place to ask for advice!I am currently in my second year of college studying photography and am hoping to go to university in September to continue studying photography. My issue is, I have no idea which uni I should go to. I have offers but I can't seem to settle on a choice and keep questioning what's the right choice for me. There are 3 main unis that I keep switching between. Two of them are local ones and would mean I wouldn't have to move away from home. The other one is further away, not too far but far enough that I would have to stay in accommodation as it is too far to commute from where I live. I really like the course and facilities (studios, darkrooms, etc) at the far uni and in general the uni seems quite nice however, I just don't know if I want to move away from home. I like where I live, have a good relationship with my family and I don't know how well I'd cope being away from them. I also live in the countryside so I'm not really used to being in the middle of a big city. So if I chose to go to one of my local unis, my options are the university centre at the college I am at currently, or the university at my nearest city which is only around an hour away from where I live. I don't know if I like the sound of the course at the city uni as much as the far away uni. The university centre is not too far away and since I am currently at the college, I know the area and am used to being there anyway. If I was to choose one of my local unis, I don't know weather I'd want a change by going to the city uni, or if I would be happy to go to the uni centre at the college I am at already. My thought at the moment are that if I went to the far away uni, it would teach me how to be an adult because I'd have to learn to survive without my family, I just don't know how well I would cope with it. The course sounds really good though and I feel like I would enjoy the content. The problem is though, I have aspirations such as starting my own photography business and I plan on staying relatively close to where I live currently so would it be more beneficial to stay local and establish myself where I live, rather than setting up a business away from home and having to start again after university. Theres also other things I have considered like it would be cheaper to go to uni locally. I wouldn't have to pay for accomodation, food etc. Another random point is that I have passed my driving test and am looking at buying a car, but I wouldn't be able to take my car with me to the far away university so I have been reluctant to buy one if I will end up leaving it at home with my parents. I'm sure they would get some use out of it but it would be unfortunate for me as I wouldn't be driving while at uni. I know there is A LOT of info here but hopefully you guys have some advice/suggestions for me. Anything is appreciated! Thank you x |

Sorry it’s been a week for someone to reply! From what you said, the further away uni sounds better overall, so that is my gut reaction, but really ( and I know this honestly isn’t very helpful) the final decision is up to you. You have more knowledge on your circumstances and situation, and what you think is best for you. I also think the educational choices make a big difference. I know this is also not very conclusive, but everything will work out. Whether it is good or bad it will all happen for a reason. This is a time for discovering who you are and finding what works for you. Just stay positive and have fun ❤️

it sounds like the further uni has better options but i think whichever one u choose is a good choice. myb look more into what they are offering and if u get more benefits from a certain uni.yes if u move out sooner u will have to become more adult sooner, i dont know how mentaly |

sorry it cut 😭i dont know how mentaly draining it would be for u (for me it would be so i stayed in my home town) if you want to build business at home or relativly close where you live, i would go to nearer uni and my be more involved in the community get ur name out there you can always go like one semester with erasmus (if that is an option in ur county) and try to be on your own for a bit whatever uni u choose is good, just depends how scary is the idea of living alone or is that something u want right now, as far as the curriculum goes if its important to you to get the best education try that but again being involved with community and mby going on some seminars/ trips provided by uni (if thats an option) also i dont know how it goes in ur county but im guessing if u dont like the uni u can switch or try a new one from scratch next year so ur not tied to a decision if u think u made a wrong one good luck!! |

If distance wasn’t an issue, which university has the best program and culture to you? Which one would you want to go to most if distance didn’t matter? Whichever that is, should be your decision. Have you attended their open houses/information sessions (in person or virtual) and compared the programs? Best of luck
