So, a few weeks ago my friend was telling me about her hamster dying soon, and I responded with “I’m wheel-y sorry for you” because you know how hamsters have wheels? And she blocked me even after I said sorry, and now she’s very mean to me at my youth group, I try to be kind back but I usually end up giving her sass and sarcasm. Am I the villain?

hmm... I don't know. The wheel joke was a bit out of pocket; it took me a minute to understand you meant like the wheels hamsters run on. Because of this, especially if it was over text, I can see how she would find potentially offensive. However, if you apologized sincerely and she's being sullen abt it that's definitely not on you, she's the one rejecting it.
idk if that was helpful or not but that's my take 😭

well, i think even if she found it rude, a sincere apology should be able to clear things up, I feel like your friend's being a bit dramatic but maybe she needs time to think? but this is not your fault ❤️

Yes, in this situation, you are the one in the wrong. That doesn’t make you a bad person, but you did handle a painful moment poorly.
Death, even though of a pet, is a very serious situation, definitely not a place for jokes or puns. Your intent may have been to be lighthearted, but it does not negate the impact. From her point of view, it probably felt like you weren't taking her pain seriously, and you were trying to be funny instead of being supportive. It's good that you apologized, but an apology doesn't automatically fix hurt. She's allowed to still feel upset, especially when the moment mattered to her emotionally.
When she reacted by blocking you, that was a boundary. The most mature move now would be to accept that your joke was bad timing, drop the sarcasm and give her space.

So....the joke might not have been the best, but thats in the past.

if you apologized, youve done what YOU can. if its get physical though, that isnt good at all. you need to tell someone

@skytech at first you were a little mean, but since she’s getting THAT mad over a joke like that, don’t beat yourself up to bad. I hope it gets better soon❤️
