A modest request, but I'd hope to not have any more supernatural visits this year. Last Christmas Eve, suddenly to my wondering eyes there appeared a sinister hooded specter looming menacingly over a younger, far more squared away-looking version of myself. Without a word, the spirit pointed a skeletal finger at me, much to the horror of my doppelgänger, who fell to his knees and implored the spook to show him no more--he'd learned his lesson and would change, and rhetorically demanded to know why he was being shown this if he was truly past all hope. They then both vanished as quickly as they had appeared, leaving me to retort "WTF?" into the void. |

Wow @GiuseppeK, sounds like you had a Scroogean experience! That type of stuff scares me so badly, especially after what happened to me last Halloween night… but that’s a story for another time (;My holiday wish list is just to profit and spend time with family and friends, since I’ve counted just 5 Christmases before I graduate from school, and (hopefully) go to Oxford, so I feel that time will just slip between my fingers if I don’t spend the time I have left with those I care about. That’s my wish (plus maybe to finally be able to play on my Nintendo after nearly a year) |

@BiancaMG In retrospect, it probably served me right. All those years ago, I foolishly squandered a cosmic opportunity to glimpse my own future and thus make the necessary reforms upon returning.How did I manage that? Basically by not shutting my mouth and letting the good spirit sent my way simply do his job of showing me what I needed to see in order to scare me straight. As the chain-dragging ghost of the kid who used to sit next to me in detention warned, I was indeed visited by one other spectral entity (they were pretty slammed that night, so I was advised that I could only expect one, and it was a rookie to boot). He introduced himself with an authoritative glow as the Ghost of Christmas Future Perfect. "Sooooooo, you are here to show me what will be...?" I ventured. Wrong--he was here to show me what SHALL HAVE HAPPENED, and what SHALL HAVE BECOME of me after. Eager to demonstrate that I was grammatically savvy and not nearly as dumb as I looked, we argued the tense's particulars for quite some time, before he floated in a most ghoulish manner and declared that he would return with his notes, and we could finally be on our way. As a newbie, he didn't want to take any chances, lest we get stuck in Future Conditional, or the nightmare of Present Progressive. But the spirit never bothered returning, and at the time, I was honestly kind of relieved. |
