ok so I have a friend who I knew in preschool and is now trans. Whenever I want to quote something from preschool that uses his deadname, do I use the deadname or do I use his name?

I think it's better to never use someone's deadname. My cousin is trans and I try to never use his deadname, even when I talk about moments before he came out as trans, because he once told me that someone calling him by his deadname felt like an insult to him...

in my experience people tend to prefer when you use their current name over their deadname when talking about things before coming out

NONONONO NEVER NEVER NEVER use someone's deadname. Ever. You should probably ask him directly to be 100% sure but most trans people don't want their deadname to be brought up in any conversation |
