I've noticed I go through black and white embroidery floss faster than other colours. One of the Michaels near me (Ontario, Canada) has an all white Loops & Threads multipack but not all black. I've been buying black as individual DMC skeins as I use them faster than other colours in multicolour multipacks. I saw a butterfly chain tutorial by @boredom.bracelets on Instagram where they show a ball of black DMC thread that appears to be size 5 pearl cotton and use it alongside other embroidery floss. Does anyone here have experience doing something along these lines? I've also seen discussion of using crochet thread for alpha base strings, and I wonder if that could be used alongside embroidery floss. Ideally, I'm looking for something that's black, made of cotton, can be used with DMC or Loops & Thread embroidery floss without a significant difference in thickness, is cheaper than buying individual DMC skeins, and is available for purchase in Ontario, Canada. Thank you in advance for the advice!

Hi! Have you looked into the floss cones? I think one is like 25 bucks on Amazon US, but the cost per yard is better, if I remember correctly.

Floss cones are a good idea to get. It's cheaper to buy versus buying individual skeins. I got a cone of black and white DMC cones 2 years ago and have not made a big dent into them. They are a bit expensive for DMC brand ones (the cheapest ones I can find are 45 dollars on Michaels) , but you could probably find non-dmc cones that are cheaper.
