Simple plaid patterns are patterns with alternating rows of f and b knots. This structure allows for many cool effects depending on the order of strings. The pattern can look completely different with a different order of strings.

With two colours you can create a checkerboard effect (abababab...) or pinwheel effect (ababbaba...).

With more colours, you can do a gradient effect. You can do stripes of different width. You can combine multiple effects. The possibilities are endless.

Feel free to experiment by clicking "add a variation" on any of the patterns. You might need to add additional keywords to submit the variation because many of the patterns are very old and the standards for keywords were different then.

For some amounts of strings, 2 versions are listed. The first version uses more f knots, the second uses more b knots. The patterns are mirrored.

Some of the string amounts don't have a simple plaid pattern. If you want to tie a simple plaid pattern with that amount of strings, you can post it to a different plaid pattern. Similar to simple candystripes or chevrons, the amount of strings doesn't really matter for the effect.

Please don't try to post the "missing" patterns. Simple plaid patterns are no longer accepted.
