a 1212 is a normal pattern with all or mostly forward-backward knots and backward-forward knots 🙂

yeah! 1212 patterns are a specific kind of normal pattern. all 1212 patterns are normal patterns but not all normal patterns are 1212. the difference between 1212 patterns and regular normal patterns is that because 1212 patterns have all or mostly fb and bf knots, it cannot be segment knotted. if you are making a normal pattern with mostly or all f or b knots then you are creating just a regular normal pattern. unless you are making an alpha pattern. with alpha patterns, you have rows of forward knots and rows of backward knots that alternate. 🙂
