Just curious where everyone else gets inspiration and reference pictures when making patterns.

I mainly use Pinterest to find store all of my potential alpha patterns. I also love using the Spriter's Resource to get video game sprites to make my video game patterns.

Any other good places to find good references and pattern inspiration?

I'd say going through the world with open eyes. I get so often inspired by random things I see somewhere like a pattern on the strap of a bag, a pattern on a piece of toilet paper or a mosaic. Inspiration can come from anywhere.

I also get inspired by the patterns and variations I see on here. I'm always thinking "what would it look like, if I changed this thing?". Checking out the requests in the forum also sometimes helps to get inspired.

I only use google to search for reference images, if I already know what I want to make. But I only search for reference images, if the pattern is something like an animal, a plant, a character... where is important that it looks accurate.

when I get an idea lets say my biggest design I'm making that will be out on my account soon FYI: it's a pattern with all the faces of the OG gen 1 pokemon I looked up on (Pinterest)
" gen 1 pokemon chart with sprites pdf" nothing had enough detail for me to do everything correctly so then instead on google I just looked up "gen 1 pokemon" then came up this site pokemon database so I went to it and the treally helped

but lets say my album cover patterns well easy I just looked up Lainey Wilson whirlwind album cover images

so yes it's that easy use google or Pinterest or any internet to find what you're looking for

hope this helps 😄

@kb_designs I'd definitely recommend looking on the spriter's resource for pokemon sprites!
