I have a trick for measuring strings: So when you want to make a bracelet with no more than 6 strings, then use the length of your arm. Bracelets with 7-12 strings have a string length from your arm to your left shoulder and at a number of of 13 strings measure the length from your right arm to your left one. (It works, I use it too and there is usually enough leftover string 😉) Hope this helps! (This is definitely easier than math or something else)

Amount of strings should only have a minor effect on string length needed.

Hi there, i figured id ask here since its the same question, but different pattern type. How do you calculate how much string you need for alphas?? Ive been having a hard time gauging it, but i do know some of it is due to how tight or loose the knots are.. a lot of prepackaged embroidery floss cones with only one or two of a colour and i dont want to start a project i cant finish :') |

@AJFoxxThe base strings need to be the length of the bracelet plus enough for the ties. The leading strings you can't really calculate. Most people will just leave them on the skein and cut them in the end. You could count knots, but then you are not accounting for the loose leading strings in between knots. I think accounting for the loose leading strings would be too complex. |
