Hi everyone, I'm attempting to create a normal pattern for the first time. I'm having some issues with the generator. I'm on a computer. My pattern has 3 colors and 10 strings, 4 of the A color, 4 of the B color, and 2 of the C color. In the "string order" field, I'm typing caaaabbbbc, but when I hit "save and test", it adds a bunch of A's to the end of what I've typed, resulting in a 19-string pattern. What can I do about that? Also, is "easy" not an acceptable keyword? It's deleting that every time I try to include it. I believe I can figure out the knot sequence row-by-row using the interactive normal feature, but first I have to have the correct number of strings in the correct order. Please help and thank you!

If it is adding extra strings, you have too many knots per row. For a ten string pattern you need 5 knots in odd rows and 4 knots in even rows, not 9 per row like you currently seem to have. You can remove the extra strings easily in the interactive generator. You can also determine the string order there. You don't need to do it beforehand. Yes, keywords that are not useful/acceptable will simply disappear from the keywords. Not all keywords that this applies to are set to automatically disappear because there are too many, so your pattern might get declined for keywords, if there are still some left that aren't useful/acceptable. We have a tutorial on keywords that you can check out, if you want. |

I fixed the number of strings. I wrote out the pattern on paper, so I’m as sure as I can be about the knot placement. I’ve entered the sequence row by row, for the number of rows in my

I’m sorry, I keep hitting the send button by mistake.

I’ve entered the sequence row by row, for the number of rows in my pattern on paper, but when I hit “save and test”, it’s incorrect. Where there should be 4 diagonal rows of a certain color, there are only 2. I’m so confused. It also has reduced the number of rows automatically, I assume to simplify the pattern and avoid redundant rows, but it has the effect of undoing a feature of this pattern where the sequence changes after a number of rows. I’ve tried using the interactive mode but can’t figure out how to use it. I would like to be able to.

To use the interactive mode, use the plus and minus signs on the top/bottom to add rows (2 at a time). Use the +/- on the sides to add strings. Change the color at the very top to what you like, then click the strings you'd like to make this color. Then you click the knots to change them, or right-click to rotate through the knots in the opposite direction. I'd recommend starting at the top to see the pattern take form 🙂

It should not reduce the amount of rows automatically. First enter all your rows, then click save and test. If rows are missing, just add them and click save and test again. Maybe you have not figured out the correct order of strings yet. If you want to, you could set what you have on paper as your profile picture temporarily and also send to me what you entered into the generator. I'm pretty sure the mistake is somewhere on your side because the generator does not simply remove rows. You can tag me @halokiwi btw so I get a notification |

Thank you both for your help. I think I will set my profile pic w my paper pattern. I’m sure the problem is on my side, I just haven’t learned the generator enough yet to know what I’m missing.

Ok @halokiwi, my pfp is set. The bracelet I want to turn into a pattern is there too. It’s a mismatched chevron that goes for one set of diagonal rows keeping the colors on their own sides, and then one set where they transfer to the other side, with a single chevron row between each set of 4. When I enter the knot sequence as it is on paper (which really looks right to me), the test image of the pattern has some of the red and yellow diagonal rows only once, and some of them going twice. What am I missing? Also, can you see my pattern in progress on my account?

Actually, wait to view it because I realized I colored some of the rows wrong on paper. I don’t think that should change the sequence, but maybe my error has something to do with that. I’ll redraw my pattern on paper and input everything again, then let you know if I still need help. Thank you!

You can see all the patterns that you haven't submitted yet, if you go to https://www.braceletbook.com/create/They're stored there until you submit them or delete them. Once you submitted a pattern, you have to wait until the pattern is accepted or declined to see it again. If it is accepted, it will be posted to your profile and if it is declined, it will go back to https://www.braceletbook.com/create/ |

Oh wait, your question was, if I can see your pattern, not if you can see it. The answer is no. I can only see it, if you submit it and it comes up in review when I'm moderating. If you want me to see what you have in the generator, you can copy and paste the string order and knotting structure and send it to me so I can copy and paste it into the generator. |

I shouldn't be on the forum in the middle of the night. Let's talk in three hours or something.

Hey! I figured it out. I was able to use interactive mode to experiment with changing knots and adding rows. It turned out the issue had to do with where I was starting the pattern. IDK why this was so hard and I feel kind of silly, but thank you for the hand-holding 😘
