Hello,I am working on creating a normal pattern now however I am struggling with making it so it has an even number of strings. It isn't allowing me to do so. How can I fix this? |

hey! to create a normal pattern with an even number of strings, on each odd row (rows 1,3,5, etc), you'll need to include half the amount of knots as there are strings. on each even row (rows 2,4,6, etc), you'll need to include half the amount of knots as there are strings minus 1. for example, if you have 8 strings in your pattern, you'll need 4 knots in each odd row and 3 knots in each even row. i hope that helps! 🙂

thank you!!! just one more question, should every row have the same number of knots when im typing out the pattern? I am trying to do one with 14 strings but it keeps switching between 13 and 15

all odd number rows have the same amount of knots as each other, and all even number rows have the same amount of knots as each other. the odd number rows will always have one more knot than the even number rows. so for your pattern, which has 14 strings, you’d have 7 knots in rows 1, 3, 5, 7, etc, and you’d have 6 knots in rows 2, 4, 6, 8 etc. does that answer your question? 🙂

hi there! if you want to make a pattern with 14 strings, it will alternate between 7 and 6 knots, like in this pattern: #64575. as said above, you will have half of the number of knots in a row as there are strings, and then one less than that number. Half of 14 is 7, and one less than 7 is 6. patterns with odd numbers of strings have the same number of knots in each row (half the number of strings minus one like in this pattern: #59786)
