How do I add a variation of a pattern but with a different amount of colors than the original? ex: adding a variation with 3 colors as opposed to 6 or 7 in the original.

You overwrite the colors you want removed from the pattern and overwrite with the color codes you want to be a part of the pattern.

You can only do that for normal patterns.
If the original pattern has a,b,c,d,e and f and you only want a,b and c in the variation you have to only have a,b and c in "colors order".
