how long to do base strings for normal key-rings

Hi I’m wanting to do a keyring with a normal pattern and I have had a look at it and it’s 20 rows long does anyone know how long I should colour my strings to make it long enough for the pattern?

That's an alpha pattern. If you've made an alpha before, you can measure it and figure out how long 20 rows are for you. The base strings always need to be the length of the knotted item plus some extra for loops or ties etc. For a keychain with larks head knots, you of course need to double the length. |
