How do you make flat edges?

I’ve been doing alpha knotting for years off and on, but on all of the complex patterns I try, the edges of the designs become less flat if a row has more colors. I tend to stick to more simple designs because of this, but when I do try more complex designs I always feel unsatisfied and I just cannot figure out what I’m doing wrong?

It’s because on the backside of the bracelet there are a lot of strings layered on top of each other which pushes the front side upward. Cutting those back strings that are dragging across the design can help flatten the design :3

And looking at your photos I don’t see any issues at all!! Your bracelets are very straight and neat (:
