To add initials to a normal pattern, you have to briefly stop the diagonal rows and work in horizontal rows. Use the color you want for the background as a "leader" string and knot it horizontally across all your other strings (the "base" strings) to create a background row. When you reach a spot where the letter should appear, switch it: instead of the leader string knotting onto the base, make the base string knot onto the leader. This "pops" the base color to the front to form your letter. Once the initials are finished, simply resume your normal diagonal knots to continue the original pattern. (Sry if this wasn't clear, I am horrible at explaining, lol 😂 ) Here is a video on how to do what I am explaining (hope it makes more sense).

Hope I understood your question correctly. If this is not what you where asking sry. But hope this helps. 😄

There are lots of alphabets made as normal patterns. If you use “letter” and “alphabet” as keywords, you’ll find them.
