Unaligned Normal Pattern Knots

I have been making bracelets on and off for about 5 or 6 years. It's one of those hobbies that I pick up and put down a lot. I only made one or two bracelets last year so I am a bit out of practice but am hoping to make a lot more this year. I have noticed a problem I keep having when making normal patterns where the bracelet knots get unaligned horizontally. Instead of the knots being a straight across line, one side is lower than the other. (I hope this makes sense) I had a look back at some of my older bracelets and some of them do have this problem but done don't. I'm not sure what causes it or how to fix it. I use the same brand of thread so I don't think it is caused by thread thickness. I do have a habit of tying my knots quite tight so it could be a thread tension problem? I did notice on some bracelets the first inch or so of the bracelet is fine but the further down it started getting wonky whereas other bracelets just look like they were unaligned from the start. I feel like it ruins my bracelets, especially with patterns that have geometric shapes like diamonds because it is so obvious. I'm not completely sure what causes it or how to resolve it so if anyone has any ideas or advice for me it would be really appreciated!

How do you secure your bracelets while tying? Make sure, your bracelet can't move around a lot and move the point where you secure it down as you go.Do you segment-knot or knot row-by-row? Knotting row-by-row can help make your rows more even. |

@halokiwi I hadn't actually considered that how I secure the bracelet could be the problem. I usually just use tape to secure it to wherever I am working but I can see how it could be an issue of it is not secured really well.I usually segment knot but I have tried row by row before so I might try doing it like that again. It would be interesting to compare how neat my segment vs row by row is. Thank you very much for the tips 😊 |

If you are going row-by-row then it can help by using a ruler to help push up the knots after every row to help them stay aligned. (I do this on alphas but I have also tried it on normal patterns and it works.) Hope this helps! 😊

@bkornre Thank you very much! I'll definitely try that on my next bracelet 😊
