Clean back alpha - colours always show through when I knot the colour downwards?

I am making a white clean back alpha with a pink design.
I'm maintaining the thickness by taking the pink to the 2nd to last base string of the row each time.
I then make a knot with the white string, hold the pink with the base string and finish the knot with the white on top of the base and pink.
However about 70% of the time the colours 'peak' through the back ground no matter how much tension I put on the knots. Any suggestions to help this as my current project looks very silly to have pink sticking out on most edges.

I find that if you make sure you don't tie the knots to tight and then after comlpeting a few mor stitches you go back and pull on the back of the thread you swiped out it should diasappear behind the knots.

Thank you, I shall try that and hope it solves the issue.
