Do you mean upside-down alpha, where the knots are basically upside-down?Instead of making regular knots, you make your knots upside-down. To make the knots upside-down, put the leading string under and around the base string instead of over and around. |

I think you are talking about using the vertical clove hitch knot (also sometimes called double half hitch). It is my preferred way to tie alpha patterns - I think it looks so much cleaner. There are some great YouTube videos explaining the process. Look for "pixel macrame."
