gap in the "aztec" style bracelet

hi, i'm planning to make a bracelet similar to #28009 with the "gap" in the middle but it just confuses me, for the edges of the gap, do we have to make a series of bf knots on the left and fb knots on the right or alternating between both knots on both edges ? |

No, you just do the knots the pattern tells you to do.

Usually, you do make bf and bf knots around a hole, but you don't need to, and the hole will appear by itself. Just follow the knots as is.

If you replace f or b knots with fb or bf knots, this will change the pattern. You can do bf or fb knots when the knot is between two strings of the same colour or when an additional edge string is added. Adding an edge string does not work for the inside of the aztec pattern. It only works on outside edges.

In this pattern all knots are bf and fb anyways. Theoretically you can change the knots on the left inside edge to bf and on the right inside edge to fb, but that leads to the centre being only one colour and not three.
