Altering patterns with variations

I’ve come across a few patterns where the original will look a certain way, and then some variations look like they’ve been altered to have strings of different colors have the same color, or strings of the same color to have different colors, like pattern #1421. Some variations display a different plaid design than the original. I’m a bit confused on how you can do this on the generator when adding a variation. Do you need to submit a special request or does it have to do something with ranks? Thank you 💗

In normal pattern variations you can change "colors order". You can change the order of the strings and you can add more or less colours than the original. Only the colours can be changed, not the knots. This is only possible for normals, not for alphas. You submit it the same way you submit any other variation. No special requests needed.
