My alpha brackets start out tight and the same length as my starting row, but the edges widen as I make them - I try to knot each with a consistent tension but it keeps happening. Does anyone know why or what I can do to try and keep them the same length?

Maybe the basestrings are placed too close together when you start.

Definitely could be what halokiwi suggested, might also be because of colour changes if you're using the flat alpha technique? I've found knots where you've changed colour can be larger than regular knots, and sometimes my alphas widen at points where there are more colour changes. But overall yeah I'd just suggest placing basestrings further apart to start with, and knotting more loosely at the beginning

Thanks to both of you, I’ll definitely try that next time!
