when i’m doing a forward knot the knot is basically doing this: 🥖
with backward knots too which makes my alpha’s look like this:

////////////
\\\\\\\\\\\\
////////////
\\\\\\\\\\\\

which makes everything a bit wonky and the design is uneven because if it…. anyone know what i’m doing wrong?

I always experience this when using the flat alpha technique. I don’t fully know why, but I think it happens because of knotting it in a direction, making the knot lean. I personally like this look better but it’s up to you. Hope this helps! ❤️

It's completely normal, but you could experiment with the angle at which you are pulling the leading string while tying.

When I tie my alphas I make sure to pull the knots straight up and then the are straight and don’t lean.

thats how it looks when you make alphas like that if you want to look straight lines you can use the upside down alpha thecnique that for me is more simple than the normal one!!

that used to happen to me and it mostly went away with time, but one method i have heard but haven’t tried is to run a toothpick across the row in the opposite direction it is slanting a couple times! idk if it works but it might be worth a try!

I recommend pushing up your knots with a ruler. So after you finish a row you take the edge of the ruler and GENTLY push up and wiggle the knots into a nice straight row. Hope this helps @Greyson11 !!

If you tie them like regular friendship bracelets, the knots will always tilt. This is because they are being tied onto a completely vertical base string. Normal bracelets don't have knots that twist because they are being tied onto a string that is going diagonally. If you want straight pixel knots, tie the vertical clove hitch know (which is basically the back of a regular knot). Vertical clove hitch knot is also called double half hitch. If you look up videos about how to do "pixel macrame," you can see how it is done. It is just as easy as tying regular knots, and in my opinion looks better.
