Hello! I'm curious how everyone starts their normal bracelets when the number of colors isn't even/symmetrical. Something like #188603 for example. I usually avoid these patterns because I don't know what to do with the start haha so any ideas are welcomed! Thanks and Happy Easter to those who celebrate! ❤️

Happy Easter!
If I wanted to do that pattern, I'd have my 1 black thread be symmetrical as normal, and for the other colours i'd have the length + a little extra, so that when I make a loop start so there's still at least 2 inches sticking out on the other side? So essentially on one end before you close the loop you'll have all the strings at correct length, and the other end of the knots will have your 1 black string at full length plus the remaining colours with the inch or 2 you left behind
then I'll start the pattern (normal or segment method), and when I'm making a knot include 1 of the leftover pieces each time, repeat that for about 2 -3 rows to keep it secure. From there I'd stop including them in my knots and carry on with the pattern like normal and when I'm done, snip away any remaining string that sticks out from the back

Hope that makes sense! can try explaining it in more detail if you need 😊

What Zaan_13 said is pretty similar to what I'd do, except I'd just always tie two of the shorter strings together and hide that knot inside the loop, or I'd just tie a temporary knot with all the strings for the start, then when I'm done with the pattern, open it back up and make a braid like for the end.

@Zaan_13 oh that's a brilliant idea! I think I got what you mean. I haven't considered doing that, but it's such a good idea I'll give it a try right away. Thank you so much!

@jukey I'm always worried with ties on both ends that it'll be too difficult to put on without help. But I'll have to try it one day and see. Thanks for the suggestion!

if you do single tie you can always do square knots over them with a separate string to make it adjustable

Once you got the hang of tying a bracelet with two ties around your wrist, it is not difficult.

If it is still a struggle, you can use a sliding knot, so you can pull the bracelet open and closed.
