How do I make a lanyard?

So now that I’m starting college I’m in need of a lanyard to carry all of my basics with me, like ID, keys, etc. I already have several lanyards, but I kind of want to make my own. How could I tie the thread to make the lanyard, and what would I tie it on? I have several d ring keychains but I’m not sure if they would work. If you have any tips or ideas they would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

yes a d-ring keychain could work! what is you could do is make a lark's head knot onto the d-ring keychain to start your lanyard. @PotatoPeel has a great tutorial on how to make those. then you would want to find a pattern long enough to make a whole lanyard, or you could repeat the pattern until you reached the desired length. i would recommend that after you finish the length of the lanyard you sew it onto the back of the top of the lanyard (the part attached to the d-ring). hopefully this gives you some ideas!
