Uneven diamond problem

When making a sort of diamond pattern, like in #135272, I find that my first part of the diamond (the ^ part, specifically) tends to be so much flatter (like it's been squished from the top) than the V part of the diamond, which is quite pointy. Does anyone know why this could be happening and how to fix it?

Try not to pull too much to the sides while knotting the first half of the diamond.
