im wanting to make a pattern but i don't know how to start it! its a small alpha ( 13 strings by 18 i might do it the other way around so it would be straight) but I'm only doing 1 butterfly in the pattern #36479 flipped sideways, and i don't know how to start it, i don't have any keyrings so i cant do that

If you want to make it into a keychain you could start with a loop, I believe masha knots has a tutorial on how to do teardrop loops for alphas and there are probably other tutorials online as well. If you want to make it into a bracelet but just have one butterfly you could start with triangle ends, again masha knots has a tutorial on how to do this.
