They can work with backward knots I mean backward knots are only the opposite of forward knots and would be no different so that would work. @RoseSoul @landrenee

If I'm not mistaken, the knot you choose determines the direction of your spiral. If you do forward knots it goes from top left to bottom right. If you do backward knots it goes from top right to bottom left. You could switch knots to change the direction and create a zigzag effect.
