After looking thoroughly through the FAQ and making patterns on the site for around a month now, I noticed there's no way to quickly change what color is associated with a letter. Even though it doesn't affect much with reading a pattern, it does affect variations.
I prefer having the base layer and the shadows for the base layer right next to one another. An example: I have a grey color for a and the darker color for b.
The only way I have found to change it is by having to go into the colors under Colors used, change each color how I want it, then have to go back into the pattern to fix the change.
I haven't tried Ctrl + F to make this faster, but if that's a possibility, I will gladly try that!

I'm not sure, if this is helpful, but the first colour you use in draw alpha is a, the second is b, the third is c and so on. If you start drawing with the colour you want to be a, then b, then c and so on, the colours should have the letters you want them to be.

The same goes for the interactive normal generator, but I assume this is about alphas.

I'm not sure how exactly the generator treats the colours, if you use alpha from image.
