I saw on Instagram something about using crochet thread instead of embroidery because it is better value does anyone know how well this works??

I have never used crochet thread but it is a little thicker than embroidery thread.

it depends on the size you get!! from dmc, size 5 is about the same as embroidery floss, while size 3 is bigger and size 8 is smaller. people tend to use crochet thread a lot for alpha base strings because it is cheaper and you don’t have to use up so much of your nice thread!

When you make something out of it, does yarn still have the same look as embroidery floss?

I use both crotchet thread and embroidery floss. Size 10 for Aunt Lydias and size 5 petra for DMC

I recently got a size 10 string from walmart for 4.30 canadian dollars. They tend to break when you tie too tight, but that's just a me thing.

I use wool/yarn sometimes especially for black and white when I’m running low and I’ve ordered some graduent/ombre crochet thread on Amazon and it’s meant to be really good but I think it’s thinner than embroidery floss
