what do you do with the strings left out, like on pattern #181152, do I just cut them off later or what?

Don't cut them!You hide them in the edges by making the edge knots around all the loose strings. You can watch the videos on #89623 and #49390 to learn how to tie shaped alphas. It works similar to how you do triangle starts and ends in alphas. |
