Starting a pattern with alternating colors

I am having difficulty figuring out how to start pattern #159843 which both has an odd number of strings (which i think i figured out how to account for) and never has the same color string next to itself... I think i have some ideas for how to start it but I would like some insight before I dive in.

Are you trying to do some special type of start?If no, I recommend just taping all the strings down in the order they need to be and leaving 10cm for ties. Then you can just start tying the pattern. |

hii! im not sure if the pattern you put for your question took me to the correct one since it doesn't have alternating colors at the beginning -- but if it the right pattern, how cute! either way, to approach the uneven # of strings, i recommend taking your strings and folding them in half to get two strings (as you would typically do for a bracelet) and then adding a single string at the edge, not folded in half, but the same length as the rest of your strings when those are folded (i hope that makes sense!)
