Knots turning inside out?

Sometimes when I am tying a knot, a knot that one of the strings is attached to will turn "inside out." It can easily be fixed by yanking on a string but it's pretty annoying when I'm trying to tighten the knot and the other keeps messing itself up. Any idea what causes this?

You are not keeping tension on your "base string" (string you are tying onto) while tying. Always keep a little tension. This way it can't flip.

I think I worded my question strangely- it's not the knot that i'm actively tying that's flipping, it's the knot next to it. Thinking about it, maybe it's due to too much tension in my knots?

I would still recommend to keep tension, but not only on the "base string" of the knot you are currently tying but on all the strings. I'll often hold all the unused strings in my left hand and keep tension on them and the right hand I use to tie my knots.

I know what you are talking about, it happened to me many times, its pretty annoying, what I used to do was keep the strings that I'm not using clipped to the edge of the clipboard so that they still had tension, or you can do what halowiki said. I suggest you start with the binder clips, and once you know how to keep the tension on the base string, do the other strategy. if you don't get what I mean you can @ me in the comments like this" @user254780 " and I will try to explain more.

@plogie if the knot made just before the one you are currently making is the one that is flipping, it is because the new knot is being made tightly and pulling the first knot through. However, it is not necessarily too tight. What i do is press the knot i just made down on the clipboard with one finger to keep it in place while i make the next knot. it's kind of like putting a finger on your laces while tying your shoes. this allows me to make all my knots tight, but without the tension traveling through previous knots and flipping them

this has previously happened to me before, and in know plogie is talking about the knot on the previous row on the column string next to it, this means, the string of the column that you are using to tie the knot, I.E. if you knot from left to right, then the string you are using to knot that is on the left will flip inside out
