I use embroidery floss... That's what I was told to use but every time I attempt to make a bookmark, I end up with gaps between my knots or it curls up and looks terrible... All the videos online seem to have thicker knots... What am I doing wrong?

i also use embroidery floss and i've only had things like that happen when im doing a normal pattern and skip a knot. It could be you getting used to the tenison? Do you happen to know what the floss youre using is made of?

I think it's cotton.

maybe you are not pulling the strings tight. try that. but make sure not to do it so tight that the bracelet curls. tell me how it turns out! 😜

I'll copy an answer I gave on a different person's topic who had the same issue:Friendship bracelet knots are made of two knots, and each affect the finished knot differently. The first knot affects how close together the knots are, and the second one affects how small/tight the finished knot is. From what you're describing, it sounds like the first half of your knot comes loose before you make the second half. Try to focus on keeping the first half of your knots tight and close to the bracelet before you make the second knot. Also take notice that some brands of thread are more slippery, and tend not to hold tension very well. DMC for example. If you find yourself working with thread that holds tension badly, try making the first half of the knot tighter than seems reasonable, because it will come a little loose before you can finish the knot. End copy From what you're describing it also sounds like you're making your second knot very tight (small knots, curling bracelets), so try working on keeping those looser too. It doesn't sound like an issue with the the thread. |

The pattern itself might be a factor. Many moons ago, I was following along on a soccer ball-style pattern (from elsewhere, long before I'd discovered this place), and despite my typical knot-tightness, the sheer number and placement of the forward/backward knots resulted in gaps I couldn't abide, and I'd defy anyone to have done any better with it.Never bothered with that one again. |

I don't know if this is your problem, but when I started on bracelets, I only did half a knot and so it was almost like a corkscrew. Maybe that's what's going on?
