okay so basically I make flat back alphas I think? but then the back looks way nicer because it looks cleaner but the letters would be backwards so how do I make the front look like the back basically because the front looks super messy with all the string from colour changes (sorry if you don't understand it's hard to explain)

You're crystal clear to me; I'm dealing with the exact same frustration. Just put the finishing touches on an alphabetical alpha tonight for a customer to pick up tomorrow. While I *am* getting better, they're still not quite picture perfect. Somewhat reminiscent of the majestic Big Mac's appearance on the overhead menu Vs. what you actually get served (every one I've ever had has looked as though it was dipped in grease and smashed on one side with a mallet).I've whinged elsewhere on the boards about the backsides looking sharper than the display side (using the "clean back" technique: www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCXIzmm0f3c ), but I'm going with the presumption that's entirely a skill issue that will work itself out with enough practice--still a rookie at this whole alpha business. |

I'd been using this one for the letters I'd drummed up tonight: #144780. Best results I've had up to this point. 👍I did take the liberty of spacing out the U and the N with one additional row in the middle of each. |

You can try doing upside-down alphas and combining them with the clean back alpha technique.

With three new orders tonight to make "vanity" alphas with the names of the customers, had a radical idea in the shower. I'm about to try, when it comes time to start rendering the letters, flipping the work in progress around so the backside is facing me, and then treating the next knot as though it's still on the front. If my hunch is correct, maybe, just *maybe* this'll make the display side look as sharp as the backside with the clean back technique has been coming out lately. Stay tuned--making no promises here... |

Alrightey, just completed my first letter using this master plan. Making it my avatar for the moment. 👍"Submitted for the approval... of The Midnight Society..." |
