I’m intermediate at making bracelets and want to start making alpha bracelets and I know all the knots and stuff but I’m confused on how to start them. The pattern just kind of starts and like I usually just tie a loop for regular patterns so I’m confused please help!!

Do you know how alphas work in general or just not the start?

I recommend watching a video on how to tie alphas for example the video on the flat alpha technique by MashaKnots.

In alphas there are two types of strings: base strings and leading strings.

If you don't know how to properly start, just tape your base strings down next to each other and leave about 10cm before the tape. You can use that to make the ties later. I wouldn't recommend tying the base strings together in one knot because then your bracelet will be scrunched up in the beginning.

I'm fairly new at alphas myself, but so far I've been getting a lot of mileage out of "shaped starts."

"Shaped ends" as well--just a matter of reversing the process.

you can do a loop and a triangle end!! im pretty sure theres a tutorial Alex's Innovations made for that specifically. Or, if the pattern is wider you can do two triangle ends, like on normal patterns (i think Masha Knots has a tutorial for this type of beginning)

I like to start by taping it flat with no knot at the begging with the loop and then when u get a couple rows done I tie the loop and do it like normal
