String tension/knotting

When I'm knotting regular patterns, one of the issues I face is the string I’m knotting on showing up in between the two halves of a knot, so on the back of the bracelet, the design looks a little off because there’s the occasional color peeking out between knots where it shouldn’t be. I try to counteract this by knotting tighter, but then my string tension isn’t very even and then because of that the bracelet’s edges turn out a bit crooked or the bracelet doesn’t end up flat. Are there any recommendations on how to make the back of normal patterns more cohesive and to make knot tension more even?Another problem with my string tension is with alpha patterns. My alphas often end up looking weird and elongated because my knots aren’t square enough, making what would be a square essentially a rectangle that’s longer up and down than it is left to right. I suspect this is also due to a problem with my knotting tension. I like to say I knot pretty tight, as my alphas are very stiff. Are there any recommendations on whether to loosen up knot tension and how to achieve consistent tension? |

You could try tying the normal pattern upside-down. This way you see the "backside" while tying and have more control.

Alphas not being square is a common issue You can try - tying looser knots - using thicker base strings/doubling base strings - pushing the rows up with a ruler - skipping some rows |
