how do i avoid my strings from showing when i switch colors on the edge?

when i switch colors on the 2nd to last string, the string im not using anymore always shows on the edges, how do i avoid that?

Do regular colour switches instead of flat alpha colour switches at the edge

If you still want to do flat alpha colour switches, I've found that after you've made a knot in the new colour you should pull the string of the old colour vertically downwards. Then make the next knot, making sure the first half of it is tight enough that the old colour isn't showing through. Hopefully that makes sense (:
