how do i add a color to my bracelet pattern when making a normal pattern?

when i try to change the color in interactive it won’t let me. do i have to do it all manually in normal?

For normal pattern's interactive generator, you choose at color at the top of the screen in the box 'using color'. Then click on the string (not the circle with the arrow) but on the string itself. Then save (very important) before going back to the first page.
