I'm trying to rank up and I understand that the only way to do that is to be active on the site. but is it possible to rank down? I'm curious!

also, side question how does the rank up work? is it the total hours of time spent on the site (like if I were to do things 10 hours straight would that be the same amount of progress like doing 1 hour for 10 days) or is it like about consistency Aswell (not skipping days, like a streak)

I don't think a consistent streak has much to do with it. I just got back from five days away, made a single dumb post on the Community board, and almost immediately thereafter found myself promoted to "Professional" for whatever reason. From absolute beginner to four orange bubbles in three weeks time. 🤔

(I can only attribute that to my rugged good looks.)

I'm going with the presumption that promotion is more a manual thing than an automatically given one (I hadn't ever been doing anything in particular when I received the promotion notifications, so it wasn't as though it immediately followed on the heels of achieving some arbitrary benchmark).

That said, stands to reason we can also be demoted if we rub someone with the clout the wrong way (probably put myself on very thin ice for saying so, but then again, I don't particularly care how many orange bubbles are under my avatar, either--I'd offer you one or two of mine if it was up to me). Although from observation, it seems we're more likely to get ourselves banned before our rank decreases. And in those instances, those individuals were clearly going out of their way to be inflammatory.

No, you can't rank down.

How ranking works is basically you get 'points' for anything you do on braceletbook. Some things give more points than other things. And if you have reached a certain amount of points, you will rank up. The higher the rank, the more points you need to rank up again.

You don't need to maintain a streak. Each action gives points independent from other actions.

@GiuseppeK ranking up is in fact an automatic thing. It is not possible for mods to lower your rank as a punishment.

If someone violates guidelines, they will receive a warning and if they continue the actions, they will be banned. If the actions are bad enough or they are obvious spam/scam/troll they will be banned immediately.

And to answer why you ranked up so fast: you posted lots of photos in a very short amount of time and you posted on the forum often.

Here is what our frequently asked questions say about ranking up:

How do I rank up?
Our ranking system is automatic, and it takes a lot of parameters into account. You can rank up even by just using the website, but if you'd like to make it quicker, definitely try adding some valuable content to the site, and helping out the community. Those are definitely things that will help you rank up a lot faster.

It's the very first question answered there because it is such a common question (but still valid question. I understand why so many are curious.)

@halokiwi I see thank you! So each action has its own “points” attributed to it? What actions have the most impact?

For the sake of everyone asking, thank you for the clarification.

I personally wouldn't've lost too much sleep over the notion of demotion. Who knows? It might've counterintuitively *improved* my popularity around these parts--I'm reliably informed women have a thing for "bad boys" and that would certainly boost my street cred.

We're not supposed to share which actions give how many points, but I can tell you that it is in relation to how much effort an action takes and how valuable it is. For example adding a new pattern gives more points than just adding a variation.

@GiuseppeK uh that would indeed be a rad bracelet, I can imagine it 😉

Some people take ranks on braceletbook very serious. To them it might be the end of the world.

@halokiwi I can relate. After a long career monitoring physical fitness assessments in the military, once the results started getting tabulated by computers rather than old school pen and paper, the bane of my existence was the borderline out of standards troopers pulling me aside to beg me to give them the absolute minimum scores necessary to pass the tested events for their age and gender.

I didn't have much patience for that, either--not inclined to go against the regs and surreptitiously draft up such a formula for the sake of the sort of people who brag about "beating the tape again."
