Hi, I’m trying to make bracelet 2146 and I’m having trouble figuring out the correct string length. I’ve searched throughout this forum and can’t find any tips on it. If anyone can tell me an accurate way to find out the length of a bracelet or any tips it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

Been making these things for many years now, and if there's a reliable formula to it out there, it's always eluded me (the particulars of the thread we're using probably defy any exact science, anyway--thicker strands will make bigger knots, for instance). If it's a pattern I've made over and over again, experience has taught me roughly how much material I need for a child's and a regulation-sized adult wrist. If it's a new pattern, I'll give myself a generous amount to work with (ALWAYS better too long than not long enough) and then save the scraps after it's finished--we can always find future use for it. Eyeballing the pattern before diving in can also clue us in on which color/s we should probably have more of (a bit longer on the white with #2146). By my own admission, I'm yet another victim of public education, so if someone *has* cracked the Da Vinci code, I'm all ears. |

I've written a tutorial on calculating string length that you can check out, if you want. https://www.braceletbook.com/tutorials/173_how-to-calculate-string-length-in-a-normal-pattern/ In this pattern it's 91cm per string. All strings are used equally but in most pattens this is not the case. |

for me, I usually do a wingspan length plus a little more so I do have room for extra end tie length.
