For normal patterns, how do you usually decide how long to make the string?
I'm asking because a lot of patterns use one string more than others, so I run out of that one and have to add a new one.

Personally, I’ve never run into the issue of running out of string in a normal pattern. I usually make one string a wingspan's length, plus a little extra for ties (around 15cm per string). However, if you want precise calculations there is a tutorial on here:

I make mine wingspan plus a bit. I would rather have too much string and waste it then have to add another string. I hate having to add another string.

@mrs_jordan yup!! That’s exactly what I do, adding a string is terrible 😭

Always better to have too much than to run out. Bonus is if you have extra string left over, you can use it for new projects and alphas later
