alpha base strings

hey! most people suggest using thicker string or doubling up for ur base strings so i’m starting an alpha and i doubled up and it used a lot of string, ofc string is meant to be used but it seems a tad excessive. I know we use embroidery thread for most of our strings but what kind of string do you guys use for your alpha bases that’s thicker?

I use some very cheap cotton yarn, i got eight 25m yarn balls for 2€. For comparison i buy my 8m skein for 2€ each lol

I use aunt lydias crochet thread. At michaels u can get a large ball for like 5 bucks I think. They have various sizes. I use some 8 I think maybe size 10 but size 3 is very thick. I would check that out
