How do I know how long to make the strings in an alpha pattern?

The base strings need to be the length of the finished bracelet plus some extra for loops, ties etc.If you want to tie a specific amount of rows and you have tied an alpha before, you can measure how long a certain amount of rows is and then use that to calculate how long a specific amount of rows will be. The length of the leading strings is difficult to estimate. It depends on the amount of knots you do with a specific colour, but there will also be some string 'lost' because of the loose leading strings in the back. I recommend just leaving the leading strings on the skein and cutting them once you are done. |
